As most of you are aware Long Course Weekend Wales is nearly upon us. There is exactly 50 days until the big event and we hope your training is going well!
To mark the occasion, we have put together 50 tips
1 Pack your kit… And check, check, and check again!
2 BUT if you do forget anything, the Wales Triathlon Show at expo should have what you need!
3 Wear your LCW black band everywhere you go!
4 Looks for shops/cafes/restaurants with the ‘Black Band’ sign – you can use your blank band here for discount
5 Explore Pembrokeshire’s beautiful beaches
6 Whether you are taking part or not… Cheer people on!
7 Plan your journey… It can be very busy if you’re arriving Friday
8 Make yourself aware of the course routes beforehand
9 Read the event pack carefully – not to miss anything
10 Remember to get your bike serviced prior to the event
11 Fill in the disclaimer beforehand
12 Remember your photo ID for registration – this is essential
13 Check the weather before-hand and pack appropriate gear
14 Plan and rehearse your nutrition
15 Know the road closures ahead of time for run and bike day
16 Make sure you have Spares – goggles, bike tubes etc
17 Make yourself fully aware of the LCW schedule – trust us, it makes everything easier on the weekend!
18 Keep Calm
19 Registration can get very busy at times, we advise registering the Thursday if possible
20 Have a pre-race ice-cream
21 Get a LCW cowbell and make as much noise as you can
22 Say hello to all the great exhibitors at the Wales Triathlon Show which is at the expo
23 Taff Kids kicks of the weekend, be there to cheer on our future athletes!
24 Aim to be at the start early, avoid the last minute rush
25 Remember to smile for the camera J
26 Don’t forget to eat right over the weekend – Carbs are good
27 If you are a nervous open water swimmer, try swimming to the side and out of the masses
28 Stick to the plan – go at your own pace
29 Always better to finish strong, than start strong and fade
30 Don’t stress if you feel you haven’t trained enough. You can do it! Believe in yourself.
31 Be nice to our marshals – they are an amazing bunch of people
32 … And without them the race would not be possible!
33 At the king of the hill, just do your best
34 Make sure you start the event with any water/nutrition you need to bring with you
35 Be aware of the Cut Offs – the last thing we want to do is DNF you.
36 Get yourself down to Tudor Square on Marathon day – the finish line has an amazing atmosphere on the final day!
37 Don’t panic – we have a great team of people happy to help if you are worried about anything
38 Follow the signs – they will keep you on track
39 HAVE FUN and ENJOY! Because that is what it is all about…
After the Event
40 Full Long Course Athletes award ceremony – amazing to be a part of but amazing to watch too!
41 Get yourself a post-race massage
42 Don’t forget to thank all the family friends and supporters that have helped you through your journey
43 Look out for your results
44 Keep your memories of the weekend alive – Purchase your clothing and photos of the event
45 Enjoy a Post-race drink – water of course…
46 …But we wouldn’t judge you if it was a pint – you’ve worked hard for it
47 eat everything and anything – You’ve certainly burned the calories
48 Relax on the Sunday evening and treat yourself to some food in Tenby!
49 Wear your Athlete top with pride.
50 Last but not least… Bask in the glory of your 4 medals
