Long Course Weekend 2014 Itinerary


There's loads going on at the Long Course Weekend - with the young talent competing in TAFFKids and the professionals and amateurs challenging for the glory of being Long Course Weekend champion!

So we've made things simple for you... to work out where you need to be and when you can see the best of the action, simply check out our itinerary of events below. Please be aware that details may change closer to the event.

Please note: this is the registration time for Long Course Weekend athletes. Those entering individual disciplines can find registration times on the respective event websites.


Friday 3rd July

12:00 - 6:00pm - Registration Open (De Valence, Upper Frog Street, Tenby)
All Long Course Weekend athletes must register before 6:00pm if they wish to participate in the event. Only the athlete themselves may collect their race number/goodie bag and will be required to produce photographic identification when registering.

12:00 - 8:00pm - Race Expo (De Valence, Upper Frog Street, Tenby)
The race expo is free to enter for athletes and the general public. It will showcase specialist swimming, cycling and running exhibitors and will be a great place to check out the latest products or update your kit.

12:00 - 8:00pm - Sports Massage (De Valence, Upper Frog Street, Tenby)
15 - 20 minute massage sessions will be available in the De Valence Pavilion.

4:00pm - The Wave Radio (North Beach, Tenby)
The Wave Radio Station start broadcast from North Beach as athletes will start to assemble.

4:30pm - Taff Kids Start (North Beach, Tenby)
The Taff Kids event begins!

6:30pm - Swimmers Into Start Pen (North Beach, Tenby)
All athletes must move into the start pen in preparation for the safety briefing and race start.

6:35pm - Swim Briefing (North Beach, Tenby)
All athletes must attend the pre-race safety briefing.

6:40pm - Race Warm Up (North Beach, Tenby)
All swimmers will be required to enter the water prior to the race start to acclimatise to the conditions. This is imperative for health and safety reasons. Athletes are also advised to keep active during their time in the start pen to ensure that their heart rate is above their normal resting rate prior to the swim start.

6:45pm - All Swimmers back into Start Pen (North Beach, Tenby)
All athletes must move back into the start pen in preparation for the race start. Any athlete not in the pen will not be allowed to swim.

7:00pm - THE WALES SWIM (North Beach, Tenby)
Athletes will enter the water as a single wave and begin a two lap swim around Tenby's picturesque north beach, totalling a distance of 2.4 miles. Each lap will have a one hour cut off. Any athlete taking longer than one hour to complete the first lap will not be allowed to begin the second.


Saturday 4th July

8:00am - THE WALES SPORTIVE (Tudor Square, Tenby)
The Top 20 Long Course Weekend Athletes from the Swim will start in reverse order down a time-trial style ramp, swiftly followed by all the other athletes as they begin a multi-lap course, spanning across 112 miles of beautiful South Pembrokeshire. A cut off for the second lap will be implemented at 2:00pm in Tenby close to the finish line. Whilst there are feed and drink stations on course, athletes are expected to start the race with two full bottles on their bike.

9:00am - 9:00pm - Race Expo (De Valence, Upper Frog Street, Tenby)
The race expo is free to enter for athletes and the general public. It will showcase specialist swimming, cycling and running exhibitors and will be a great place to check out the latest products or update your kit.

9:00am - 9:00pm - Sports Massage (De Valence, Upper Frog Street, Tenby)
15 - 20 minute massage sessions will be available in the De Valence Pavilion.

6:00pm onwards - Pasta Party (De Valence, Upper Frog Street, Tenby)

Sunday 5th July

7:00am - 5:00pm - Sports Massage (De Valence, Upper Frog Street, Tenby)
15 - 20 minute massage sessions will be available.

9:45am - Marathon Briefing (Tudor Square, Tenby)
All athletes gather to the side of the start line for the race briefing - all athletes MUST attend.

10:00am - THE WALES MARATHON (Tudor Square, Tenby)
Athletes will begin The Wales Marathon from Tudor Square at 10:00am and run towards Pembroke, where the Half Marathon athletes will start at midday. The cut off time for athletes is 4:00pm in Tudor Square, Tenby.

12:00pm - The Wales Half Marathon (Main Street, Pembroke)
Athletes will begin The Wales Half Marathon from Main Street at midday, running towards Tenby whilst taking in the spectacular scenery. The cut off time for athletes is 4:00pm in Tudor Square, Tenby.

4:00pm approx - LCW Trophy Presentation (De Valence, Upper Frog Street, Tenby)
Presentations will begin after the Wales Marathon cut off.
